Western Area of Yantai Free Trade Area was approved by the State Council and it was the former Area B of the Yantai Export Processing Area The Planning area of it reaches 2.26 square kilometers. It was launched in operation in July 2010, the planning area of the first phase reaches 1.81 square kilometers, the planning area of the second phase reaches 0.45 square kilometers and it completed the customs clearance in October 2016.

The area focuses on the development of modern export processing, cross-border e-commerce, bonded warehousing and distribution, international transit, product display, international procurement and distribution and other functional businesses, and it has formed an industrial structure featuring electronic information, supplemented by bonded logistics and cross-border e-commerce .The area has a professional logistics center and a large comprehensive inspection station which implements concentrated handle of customs, commodity inspection and logistics. It has a sound logistics and warehousing facilities and mature operating procedures which can provide low-cost, high efficiency, 'one-stop' integrated services for enterprises. In 2015, it was appraised as 'Shandong Provincial Cross-border E-commerce Industry Agglomeration Area' and 'Yantai Modern Service Industry Agglomeration Area' respectively by Shandong Provincial Department of Commerce and Yantai Municipal Development and Reform Commission.

48 enterprises have settled in the region, including Hong Fu Tai Precision Electronics, Hong Fu Jin Precision Electronics, Fu Tai Tong International Logistics, Fu Cheng Ke Precision Electronics, Kinki Packaging, Thai Fung Bao Ding Liquor, Long Yue Logistics, Jieshun Logistics, Kintetsu International, etc. It ranked the 2^nd place in terms of imports and exports total volume in the country’s 14 bonded ports and ranked 12^th in the country in more than 110 customs supervised areas.
